We drove along the "PCH" (Pacific Coast Highway) one day around sunset looking for any good beach to stop at and kill some time. We ended up finding a random one in Malibu, the exact name of which I completely forget. Mixed as my feelings may be about LA in general, it's hard not to like Malibu - or, really, for that matter, any of the Pacific coastline.
