My trip to Colorado in August of 2004 was my second visit to the state, but a much longer
one, being that my first was just a brief stop-in during my brother's and my cross-country
road trip in 2000. I flew out this time to visit my very dear friend Clare, who was currently
living in Durango, a pleasantly small town in the southwestern corner of the state, nestled
into a valley at the foot of the San Juan Mountains. I actually
flew into Alburqueque, New Mexico, which is closer to Durango than Denver. Pictures in
this gallery also feature the little town of Silverton, which we took a train trip to.
Overall, I loved Durango and would love to return, and some of
the photos I took during this trip remain some of my favorite photographs I've ever
taken. But visiting any
Western state is always somewhat of a shock to an East Coaster because of the reality that
sets in of
how big these states really are, & there is so much more of Colorado left for me
to see & photograph.
