We drove up a long, long winding road to reach the Waimea Canyon on the same day that we arrived in Kauai, and what an introduction it was. They call it the Grand Canyon of Hawaii, and having seen both, I find them equally awe-inspiring. While the desert landscape of the mainland southwest is immensely beautiful and charismatic in its own right, I couldn't get over all the green that co-existed with this gaping red dirt canyon.
