oahu, hawaii

I traveled to Hawaii with my family at the beginning of the summer of 2006. The trip was one of the more extravagant my family had ever done, and was partly in celebration of my brother and I graduating from college, and a gift from my grandfather, unknown to him, with money we inherited after his death the year before. After first using the money for useful things like bills and loan repayments, we knew he would have wanted us to just have a good time in honor of him. We traveled to three islands, and after realizing how many pictures I had amassed, I decided to give each island its own gallery, in the order that we visited them.

Oahu, home of Honolulu, is the most populous and touristy of the islands. We stayed in Waikiki, the touristy neighbor of Honolulu, full of hotels, restaurants, and shops selling cheap leis and flowered shirts. Although still beautiful as our first introduction to Hawaii, after visiting the slightly-less-visited other islands, it was probably my least favorite island. My favorite part by far was when we went snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, which is located further around the coast about twenty minutes from Honolulu. The scenery was amazing, as was snorkeling. It might've actually been my favorite part of the whole trip.
