south dakota

These pictures follow our travels through South Dakota as we drove through East to West: the kitschy and touristy delights of the Corn Palace, Wall Drug, and the Petrified Gardens, and then most of the remainder are of the splendor of the Badlands. The Badlands amazed me, and they also amazed my camera: there was so much blazing hot sun and so much endless bright sand and stone and I guess I'm a little underexperienced in this type of climate, and so a lot of my photos from the national park are overexposed. South Dakota seems like one of those mid-America places which one from the East such as myself assumes is full of nothing, but that's deceiving: there is history and beauty all around in South Dakota.
